These powerful boats are some of the finest shallow water boats on the market for a couple of reasons. Mud/duck boats are put through the ringer.Whether you’re exploring the shallow waterways, relaxing on a day off, or just cruising with friends, a Gator-Tail boat is an absolute must. Paint coming off can't be blamed on the builder. Broken welds and cold water in duck season aren't a healthy match. The other guy seems happy with his but its brand new. I've been in 2 WC Customs, first one the paint all came off the guy first trip out and welds broke constantly. When I traded it in it was almost unrecognizable cause nearly every part on it except the frame had been replaced. I also ordered a Diamond City Aluminum trailer for that one cause the McSuck trailer started falling apart my first trip out. I traded it in 2005 for a 1848 w 22' sides and a tall transom and square chines and have been happy with that boat ever since. My biggest complaint was the latches rattled like crazy and it sounded like somebody threw a bucket of bolts in the floorboard everywhere I went. Not GT fault that it didn't perform well, at the time people just stuck em on the same hulls as the longtails. It was a 1648 w round chines and 16" sides and it was a death trap. I will agree with this part! I've only had one Gator Trax boat and it was when surface drives were first created. Please keep suggestions or recommendation coming it, they are appreciated! I also forgot to mention, I will be going with the center console option If I don't have catwalks, I can't go with the removable extended front deck, hence the reason that I could go with the custom extended front deck. I definitely can see their advantages, but as mentioned earlier, I am under the same impression of keeping an open layout. What are y'all's thoughts on the cat walks? I don't need the enclosed cat walks for storage, and I'm unsure of the open cat walks. I'm definitely going to get the extended front deck, I'm considering having the front deck made a little longer as I really like A LOT of deck space for fishing. I will be running the hunt deck and I know that will add 18" to either of those lengths. I've been having issues deciding between the 17 or 18'. I will spend 90-95% of my time in water where an outboard is much more applicable for my intended use. I'm looking at either a 90 hp or 75 hp depending on which boat I end up going with. What motor are you thinking?įuel tank built in the back? I've been reading a lot of people recommending putting it in the front to help prevent porposing (sp?) is there any truth to this, or no? Do you still have a GT? I'm actually going to run an outboard, not a mud motor. Good luck on your choice!! You'll live the boat. My 18x54 was plenty to bass fish 2 ppl, catfish/crappie 3 ppl, and duck hunted 4 with no problems. It's a pain to was crap out of it under the runners and have only one drain. Also ii would build one with 2 drains/plugs. 6 bolts and you can remove by yourself if your going into some thick stuff that day. They are great in so many ways and are light enough you won't notice it's there. If you must go wide, it will displace more water and be a lot more comfortable. Helps to stay dry for sure in rough water. I'd suggest also, if on lakes a lot, is to contact GT and get higher sides. It will turn in a dime for sure but in ruff water it's not too fun. The paint isn't the best in the world also so I waited till it was roughed up bad and then out hydro turf down. The trailer it comes on is junk.the side runners will bend so easily and the tires and bearings won't last long. I prefer the extended deck also and kept my 2x12v battery's under there. I don't know what motor your wanting on there but it's hard to squeeze between lay downs and bank or through flooded rivers in the trees. The problem you will have with the 62" is how wide it is. Defiantly get the fuel built in the back for weight displacement properly. Must say GT is a beast! My favorite was my 18x54 with the hunt deck.
